Domain Name System (DNS)

TNS provides the authoritative Domain Name System Servers at PSU.EDU that resolves network names into Internet Protocol, IP, addresses. IP addresses are resolved into network names as well. TNS will delegate Domain Name resolution authority to other organizations upon request.

If you have a question about this service or would like to make a request to add, change, or terminate this service please contact TNS at (814) 865-1696 or submit your request through the Service Inquiry Form  Locked Content.

TNS is the local authority for the Penn State Domain Name System (DNS). DNS is a client/server mechanism by which machine names get "mapped" to IP addressee. In order to facilitate the process of Integrated Backbone service requests, it is TNS's policy that all such requests be submitted by an authorized Administrative, Technical, or Security Contact specified on the Penn State Integrated Backbone Contact List (authentication required) via the applicable Integrated Backbone Service Request Forms below. These forms reside on a secured server and can only be accessed by an authorized Administrative, Technical, or Security Backbone contact.
Lead times are based on the time a request is made via the Integrated Backbone Service Request Form and a service completion e-mail is sent by TNS.
